We are all Conforming to Individuality

No one want to be one thing. Everyone today has so many interests that choosing one career is like condemning oneself to a no longer interesting life where anything an happen. I have never met anyone my age who JUST wants to be a doctor or ONLY wants to be a musician, the problem/solution is, is that we all think that we can do anything so we do a little bit of everything. We have diverse interests with a wide range of categories from music, literature, television, everyone today is trying to be everything, to like and appreciate everything. The ambition of our generation is astounding but from what I have observed we are all just jacks of all trades with no specific skill that we excel at above all the others. People are spreading themselves to thin in order to dodge being labeled as only a musician or only a writer. Due to our egos we think we can do it all, and to be honest we probably will. This is because no one today wants to be defined as anything, we hate stereotypes even if they are true and compliment our personality. Of course there are exceptions to these ideas because me defining and putting a label on a generation that refuses to be one thing would be immediately rejected since the label that means “to have no label” is still a label, but I digress…I am guilty of this myself as I don’t only want to be just a filmmaker I want to do many other things although currently I am going to school for film it is not going to define me. The only problem I find with this paradox of conforming to being an individual is that we will never truly know what we want to do with our lives until we pick one thing or just settle for only half-doing everything.

I don’t know, maybe this is all just gibberish to everyone, I find that the people who have the most trouble with this concept are those who truly don’t know themselves or who they want to be. They are comfortable being a little bit of everyone and not true to themselves..although on their side of the argument we are all just slight reflections of each other because as we grow and shape who we are it is molded after the most prominent people in our lives..then the question becomes are we ever an truly a unique individual? or just slight reflections of each other with small differences but universally the same person?

As a disclaimer, I am not trying to offend, scare, sound depressing, change people, be an idiot, or really mean anything…just trying to inspire thought…take it as something interesting or leave it as bullshit. This is not necessarily something I agree with or disagree with..but then again, who wants to pick a side and be labeled?
